NACA Northeast

The NACA® Northeast Region is made up of the following states & territories:

Regional Leadership Team Structure

These seven teams (one for each region) are comprised of up to 33 school member volunteers at all levels (undergraduate students, graduate students, and professional staff) and one AAG representative, in addition to Leadership Fellows within the region and liaisons from several national teams and advisory groups. The RLTs work to advance the mission and vision of the association by creating year-round meaningful member engagement and education opportunities. Additionally, regions where a NACA conference is located assist with the planning of that conference.

Region Awards

Donald L. McCullough Award

NACA Northeast's highest honor is the Donald L. McCullough Award, which is given to an individual who, over the years, has given of their time and talent in such a way as to contribute significantly to NACA Northeast and the field of Student Activities. This Award is presented in tribute to Mr. McCullough, one of the founders of NACA Northeast.

Criteria & Eligibility for Selection: 

  • An anonymous selection committee appointed from the region will select one individual whom: 
  • Is from a member institution or agency 
  • Has worked in the region, past or present for 5 or more years and has made a strong contribution to the profession through volunteer roles in associations. 
  • Has given continual and outstanding service to the association, have exemplified standards of professional integrity and conduct, have achieved stature in their professions or academic pursuits, hold the esteem of colleagues and peers and have worked to further the field of student activities 

Nomination Must Include: 

  • A minimum of two letters of support for the nominee that must include the nominee's activities, leadership positions and contributions within NACA Northeast and other associations in student affairs, highlighting contributions in their personal or professional life and how this person meets and exceeds the stated award criteria 
  • It is recommended that at least one recommendation be from a nominee's coworker at their current or former institution/agency summarizing how they worked to further the field of student activities

Maureen McDermott/Michelle Delaney Staff Programmer Award

The Staff Programmer Award honors an individual who best exemplifies outstanding achievement in the field of Student Affairs. 

Criteria & Eligibility for Selection: 

  • An anonymous selection committee appointed from the region will select one staff member who: 
  • Is employed by a member institution as a professional staff member in the field of student affairs or campus activities for four or more years 
  • Has shown long term potential in the field 
  • Is recognized for their work in the development of student leadership skills and creativity 
  • Is currently employed in campus activities advisement at a NACA member institution, and has been at this institution for at least nine months 
  • Has developed an effective advising style, which results in an extraordinary impact on students' lives 
  • Is viewed by their colleagues as an educator 

Nomination Must Include: 

  • At least two letters of support that elaborate on how the nominee meets the award criteria 
  • One of the letters should be from a student

David A. Ross New Professional Award

The David A. Ross New Professional Award was named in honor of one of the founders of NACA Northeast. This award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to and who demonstrates the potential and commitment for excellence in service to their member institutions and NACA. 

Criteria & Eligibility for Selection: 

  • An anonymous selection committee appointed from the region will select one new professional who: 
  • Has been employed by a member institution as a professional staff member in the field of student affairs for no more than three years 
  • Has actively participated in NACA 
  • Has shown long term potential in the field of student affairs 
  • Is viewed by colleagues as an educator 
  • Demonstrates significant leadership skills and abilities 
  • Displays genuine support and regard for students 

Nomination Must Include: 

  • At least two letters of support that elaborate on how the nominee meets the award criteria 
  • One of the letters should be from a student 
  • One of the letters should be from the nominee's supervisor 
  • Candidates may be nominated by others or may self-nominate

Kevin Fahey Graduate Assistant Award

 
The M. Kevin Fahey Graduate Assistant Award was named to honor one of the founders of NACA Northeast. This award is given to a graduate student in the region who has made significant contributions to their institution and/or NACA. 

Criteria & Eligibility for Selection: 

  • An anonymous selection committee appointed from the region will select one graduate assistant who: 
  • Is from a member institution 
  • Is enrolled in a graduate program and has an assistantship position within the Northeast region or has provided service to the Northeast Region 
  • Is a role model for student leaders on their campus 
  • Demonstrates significant leadership skills and abilities 
  • Displays genuine support and regard for students 

Nomination Must Include: 

  • At least two letters of support that elaborate on how the nominee meets the award criteria 
  • One of the letters should be from a student 
  • One of the letters should be from the nominee's supervisor describing the nominee's activities and leadership positions on campus, highlighting their professional relationship with students, faculty, staff, and associate members 
  • Candidates may be nominated by others or may self-nominate

Ken M. Bedini Student Leader Awards

The Ken M. Bedini Student Leader Award was established to recognize the outstanding contributions of the region's undergraduate student leaders who make a difference in their institutions. The region will award up to five awards. 

Criteria & Eligibility for Selection: 

  • An anonymous selection committee appointed from the region will select up to five undergraduate students who: 
  • Are matriculated undergraduate students in good academic standing 
  • Have a strong record of leadership position(s) on their campuses 
  • Have made meaningful contributions to their campus communities 
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and abilities 

Nomination Must Include: 

  • At least two letters of support that elaborate on how the nominee meets the award criteria 
  • One of the letters should be from a fellow student 
  • One of the letters should be from the student's advisor 

Northeast Diversity Achievement Award

The Northeast Diversity Achievement Award was established to recognize individuals who are part of the Northeast region that positively contributes and impacts the development of programs and services promoting cultural diversity, understanding and/or awareness at their institution or within NACA. Up to two awards will be awarded. Current full-time professionals, staff members, graduate students, or undergraduate students at NACA member institutions are all eligible to receive this award.

Criteria & Eligibility for Selection: 

  • An anonymous selection committee appointed from the region will select up to two individuals who: 
  • Foster meaningful relationships between diverse student populations 
  • Challenge stereotypical perceptions of diverse populations 
  • Assist others in communicating effectively with people of various backgrounds 
  • Generate awareness and appreciation of diverse cultures 
  • Demonstrate a record for enhancing awareness and understanding of diverse cultures amount the general campus community or NACA community 
  • Demonstrated quality and originality of programs and services developed and/or implemented 
  • Success in contributions and service to diverse populations 

Nomination Must Include: 

  • A description of how the individual meets the goals and criteria outlined by the nominator 
  • Two letters of recommendation from peers/colleagues/supervisors 
  • Candidates may be nominated by others or may self-nominate

Everyday Hero Award

The NACA Northeast Everyday Hero Award is given to a professional, graduate, or support staff member from a college/university or associate member agency who has made positive contributions to student activities on their campus and/or the Northeast Region. This award recognizes and celebrates those who have successfully made an impact on student, campus, and community life through their work in student activities/student affairs. Multiple recipients may receive this award.

Criteria & Eligibility for Selection: 

  • An anonymous selection committee appointed from the region will select at least one individual who: 
  • Is from a current member institution or agency 
  • Is committed to programming, student development, and student activities 
  • Works behind the scenes to make something a success 
  • Displays genuine support and regard for students and the field of student activities and student affairs 

Nomination Must Include: 

  • At least two letters of support that elaborate on how the nominee meets the award criteria 
  • One of the letters should be from a campus activities professional or associate member 
  • One of the letters should be from a student

Ken Abrahams Associate Member Award

NACA Northeast recognizes the commitment of Associate Members and the role that they play in the development of student leaders. This award is given to an agency or person who has given to the region in an exemplary fashion, displays a professional attitude, and provides support to the region in a variety of ways. 

Criteria & Eligibility for Selection: 

  • An anonymous selection committee appointed from the region in the Region will select one individual or agency who: 
  • Is from a current member agency 
  • Demonstrates exemplary leadership and participation in the NACA Northeast Region 
  • Is committed to programming, student development, and student activities 

Nomination Must Include: 

  • At least two letters of support that elaborate on how the nominee meets the award criteria and includes the nominee's activities, leadership positions and contributions to the association and its members, while highlighting the agency or nominee's professional relationship with students, staff and other agencies 
  • One of the letters should be from a campus activities professional
