Panelists from Austin Community College and Denison University will discuss how they tell the story of the impact of their campus activities/student life departments and the value they bring to their institutions. As a result of attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify strategies to effectively collect student data
- Identify multiple campus partners that can assist in the ethical collection of data
- Identify multiple sources of data using a theory-to-practice framework
- Utilize the data they collect to create a compelling narrative for the relevance and vision of an office
- Differentiate data that affects your work versus data that is evidence of your work
- Experiment with reverse program-design based on assessment data
Kelly Brown is a student affairs professional currently serving as a supervisor for the Office of Student Life at Austin Community College (ACC) in Austin, Texas. In this role, she supervises Student Life offices in ACC's Central Region, Student Leadership programs and is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and assessing data for Student Life programming across the ACC district. Brown is committed to creating equitable co-curricular programming that addresses students academic, professional and personal goals. Brown earned her Master's Degree in Communication Studies and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Arts from The College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, NY.
Stefanie Vermillion graduated from the School of Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) in association with Tufts University with a BFA. In addition to her daily work as Student Life Communication Supervisor, she donates her graphic design services to the Austin Child Guidance Center and is a co-founding member of the LGBT eQuity Committee at Austin Community College and developed the logo concept for the organization. Currently, Stefanie works at Austin Community College as the Communications Supervisor for Student Life where she manages a team that supports the marketing, engagement and outreach for all eleven campuses within the Austin Community College District.
Matthew Vetter is a leadership educator currently serving as the Director for the Alford Community Leadership & Involvement Center at Denison University near Columbus, OH. Vetter's prior work at Denison included oversight of campus programming and student organizations, and he has additional experience in student activities, residence life, civic engagement, and fraternity and sorority life. In each of these roles, Vetter is motivated by a commitment to create inclusive communities that provide a space for learning and personal growth. His professional and scholarly work is focused on developing and promoting co-curricular involvement experiences grounded in student learning and meaning-making. Vetter has earned a PhD in Higher Education from Azusa Pacific University, a Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel from the University of Louisville, and a B.A. from Transylvania University in Lexington, KY.
