Introducing the Competencies for Campus Activities Professionals and Competencies for Diversity and Inclusion
Category: Webinars

  • Members: All
    Regions: All
    Target Audience: All
Diversity and inclusion are important aspects of campus activities. Even so, it can seem challenging to develop a strategy for incorporating diversity and inclusion into your daily practice. NACA® Competencies for Diversity and Inclusion provide a guideline to make planning and implementing initiatives more manageable. Because campus activities professionals are so passionate about the students we serve, it is no surprise that our efforts are primarily focused on students. Whether a new campus activities professional, a seasoned professional, or somewhere in between, it is equally as important that we are intentional about taking time to focus on our own professional development – not only so we can serve students better, but also so we can advance our careers and the profession. Attendees will be introduced to the new Competencies for Campus Activities Professionals developed by the Education Advisory Group and will reflect on ways they can utilize the competencies for professional development.

The future classes of college graduates are expected to change careers and/or professions up to 15 times during their working years. As technology continues to grow and liberal arts education continues to be sought after, institutions of higher education must be more intentional about how academic affairs and student affairs partner in the delivery of student services. In "Robot Proof: Higher Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence," Joseph Aoun, author and President of Northeastern University, provides insights on the importance and necessity of these partners in the evolution of higher education. During this webinar we’ll review what Aoun calls the new literacies, where higher education needs to adapt to better service our students and gain a deeper understanding of why the work we do in student affairs is important. Participants will: - Understand the definition of Humanics - Classify New Literacies and they relate to leadership development - Design methods for partnerships across university departments
