NACA® Winter Leadership Event

Winter Leadership Event

Disney's Coronado Springs Resort (FL)

Audience: Students and Advisors

The NACA® Winter Leadership Event is a leadership development program for student leaders and professional staff.

The Winter Leadership Event utilizes Disney Youth Education Series (YES) Programs that are relatively consistent from year to year. We welcome students and advisors to attend each year with the understanding that the curriculum does not change considerably. Each experience has the opportunity to be very meaningful because of the Magic that occurs at Walt Disney World. The Disney’s Yes program will be incorporated into the curriculum of the institute to enhance the overall experience for each delegate. This year’s focus will be on creativity and leadership with the basis of the curriculum coming from Ed Catmull’s Creativity, Inc. The major themes of the institute will be:

  • Honesty and Candor – Challenging ideas in the creative space
  • Creativity and Cultural Intersectionality – Understanding the value of diversity and inclusion in creative leadership
  • Navigating Change – Understanding the different levels of change adoption
  • Challenging the Process – Putting the process on blast, NOT the people
  • Crucial Conversations in Leadership – How to handle “sometimes” stars

As a result of attending the Winter Leadership Event, students will be able to:

  • Facilitate personal leadership skills through creativity
  • Create inclusive team environments and programs
  • Incorporate new ways to train and supervise peers
  • Demonstrate customer service techniques that can help make participants more career ready and enhance employability
  • Develop skills to improve campus life on their campuses

As a result of attending the Winter Leadership Event, advisors will be able to:

  • Incorporate Disney techniques into student leader training programs
  • Train and encourage student leaders to create inclusive team environments and programs
  • Coach students for their roles as peer trainers and supervisors
  • Help students connect their student leadership experiences with employability skills
  • Implement customer services techniques to improve campus relations
  • Develop ideas to bring back to campus to share with other staff members to enhance their professional development
