Diversity and Inclusion: A Place for Everyone

Have you ever looked out over one of your events and wondered why the crowd was so homogenous?

Have you known students or staff who didn’t feel included in events due to some aspect of their identity? Have you ever felt that way yourself?

How would you like to change that?

Concepts and practices pertaining to diversity and inclusion have long been important to campus activities practitioners, and as social demographics continue to evolve in the 21st century, it will be even more crucial to understand and meet the needs of diverse constituencies on our campuses and in our organizations and communities.

To assist you – students and professional staff – in developing an increased awareness of diversity and inclusion and to offer guidelines for facilitating diverse and engaged communities on your campuses, NACA offers the NACA® Competencies for Diversity & Inclusion.

NACA® Competencies for Diversity & Inclusion

The competencies include four domains:

  1. Knowledge and Practice
  2. Culture
  3. Engagement and Composition
  4. Advocacy and Social Justice

These domains can be utilized by several target audiences, including campus activities professionals, NACA® school members, NACA® associate members, NACA® volunteers, and NACA® office staff in enhancing understanding and practice of diversity and inclusion through activities and program content.
