NACA® Internship Program - Frequently Asked Questions

Intern Hosts

1.   Who can host an intern?

Any NACA School or Associate member can host an intern.

2.  What is the commitment that my campus or business is making?

By agreeing to host intern(s) at your campus or business, you agree to engage your intern(s) in meaningful tasks and responsibilities that give them exposure to various departments and administrators, as well as the opportunity to learn industry-specific skills and general skills that can be applied in other career settings. Internships should last up to 12 weeks. The start and end dates are flexible; you can work these out with the intern(s) you choose to hire. Typically, internships begin mid-May and conclude in August. We do not require a minimum stipend for you to pay housing, meals, and/or transportation to and from your organization, but we do ask you to assist in coordinating the intern’s housing and board. Please note that if you do offer a stipend and cover these expenses, your position will be much more attractive to prospective interns.

3.  What is the process?

Organizations wishing to host an intern must submit internship descriptions online. After the position submission deadline, Interns are notified of the internship opportunities available and submit their applications online. After the application deadline, host organizations set-up interviews with the candidates. While most will be held by phone, some may be conducted in person, if both parties are able. In order to be fair to all candidates, host organizations cannot begin making offers until the specified date.

4.  How do I submit my internship posting?

  • A graduate student enrolled in a program at the time of application to the internship

2.  What is the commitment that I am making?

You commit to work for your host organization for a mutually agreed upon length of time - usually between mid-May-August. You also agree upon a salary and other benefits before accepting a position that is offered to you.

3.  What is the application and selection process?

If you are interested in applying for an internship, submit your application online. Please note that new postings get added frequently. After the application deadline, the host sites you've applied to will review your application and offer phone interviews. It is up to the organization to decide on whom to offer an intern position. While most often interviews are held on the phone, some can be done in person, if both parties are near the same location. To be fair to all candidates, host organizations cannot begin making offers until the specified date. Once you accept a position, you and/or the host site representative must notify the NACA Office of the match.
